Ask an Alumni: Mweruka Jolly- Giving Back One Smile at a Time
My Journey With Divine Care Ministries
I am Mweruka Jolly born in 1995 by Mweruka Emmanuel and Ms. Musoke Harriet who were living in Kampala. At the age of 7 months, I was transferred to my grandma called “Ms. Nakato Maria” who is located at Sanje in Rakai after my mother and father separated and after that, everyone started their own life.
Since then, I started staying with my grandma who was selling alcohol (tonto) which she used to earn a living and pay for my school fees since she wasn't getting any financial support from my parents.
When I reached the age of going to school, she took me to Sanje Primary School then later changed me to Kisalizi Primary School.
Due to low earnings from her business and my poor performance at school, my grandma and I were advised by my friend and his mum to take me to Divine Grace Primary School since it was performing very well in academics and the school fees were very low.
In 2006 I joined Divine Grace Primary School in primary three and after being registered by “Uncle Peter” who was the headteacher then.
Indeed I was taught by good teachers at Divine Grace such as “Aunt Faith” and Madam Harriet in primary three who made me gain hope in academics and I started performing well from that point on.
When I reached primary four in 2007, I was registered among the orphans by Madam Beatrice after being sent back home to collect the school fees which were very small but my grandma couldn't afford the school fees, and in the third term, they took my photo.
In 2008 when I was in primary five I was among the few who had gotten a sponsor (Mrs. Ramsey, USA) to cater for their school fees and I was very happy since I had got relief from paying the fees.
In 2010 I sat my final exams for primary level and I got a first grade of 11 aggregates after being taught by other good teachers such as “Uncle John”, Peter, Ofwonya Patrick, Kenneth, Pastor Henry, Madam Medius and others.
In 2011 I joined Grace High School in Kampala since I loved to study in town school and I also made a difference from the village mates.
In 2012 in second term we were transferred to St. Michael International School were I sat for my O level final exams and I got first grade. I attained all that success because of God and Divine Care Ministries’ support.
In 2015 I had lost hope of going back to school. I decided to share my problems with Mummy Phoebe at the head office and she comforted me, as her own child, after getting disappointed from my father’s lack of involvement or care in my life.
Before setting my ordinary level exams I got a chance to meet my father in 2013 thinking that I would get some support but still he failed to take up the responsibility as a dad.
In 2015 I joined St. Julian High School Gayaza for my advanced level and in 2016 I sat my final exams and I managed to get 10 points from biology, chemistry and agriculture.
In my vacation 2017, I was given an opportunity to work with Divine Hope Primary School as a student teacher under Divine Care Ministries which taught me how to handle various people such as parents, teachers and the children with the help of the Headteacher “Uncle Benard” for a period of six months.
In 2017 I applied for the program of Public Health Dentistry at International Paramedical Institute Maya and they admitted me which was my dream program and I was very happy.
In 2018 and 2019 while studying my course, I got an opportunity to work with Dr. Mary Cay Koen, DDS, MS who inspired me as a young dentist and I learned very many things from her as my senior.
In 2020 we completed our final exams in our program for dentistry and now today I am in the field working as a dentist.
I hope to start up a dental clinic since Mummy Phoebe gave me a dental unit at Masaka City and also create awareness of oral health to people in the region.
Great thanks goes to the following people in the Divine Care family:
Mr. and Mrs. Sozi for the great vision they had to start up Divine Care Ministries. I am what I am because of them.
Mummy Diana and “Uncle Silver” for the advice and counseling they always gave us from childhood up to today.
All workers of Divine Care Ministries (at schools, office and farm) for the great work they did in my life.
Life couldn't be as it is (dentist) without you and I pray may the good Lord bless you all especially those who were behind my success.
