A Hope and A Future

“‘For I know the plans I have for you’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.’” ‭‭-Jeremiah 29:11

Before we are even born, God has a plan for our lives. This is true of Lwibasira Henry. Henry is from the Kyotera district in Uganda. Henry’s mother unexpectedly got pregnant with him when she was a teenager. His parents were young and not married. Henry’s mother struggled to raise him so when he turned 2 years old she left him in the care of his grandmother. Henry’s grandmother raised him and his two cousins all on her own. His grandmother is a peasant who farms food to sell and also for her own consumption. As his grandmother aged, she was not able to farm as much as she used to. She brought in very little income and was unable to support Henry’s education. In 2005, Divine Care stepped in to help her and her family. Henry became a part of Divine Care Ministries and started attending Divine Grace Nursery and Primary School when he turned 6 years old. He was a bright student and worked hard to get good grades. Henry completed both primary and secondary school and excelled in all of his classes. He really enjoyed school and hoped to one day become a doctor. His dream was to go to University to study Optometry and Vision. His wonderful sponsors decided to support him in his endeavors for the next four years. Henry speaks so highly of his sponsors and calls himself their Ugandan son. He is so grateful for their consistent encouragement, prayers and financial support. He is very thankful for Peter and Phoebe, Divine Care Ministries and the Ferays for helping him all the way through school to pursue his dreams of becoming an eye doctor. Henry graduated in 2022 and is now working at an Optometrist office in the Mbale area. He recently discovered that his grandmother has cataracts which is hindering her vision. Because of his training, Henry has the opportunity to perform surgery on her that will help her be able to see. None of this would be possible without everyone who partners with Divine Care Ministries. A little boy who had no hope of even getting a basic education is now an eye doctor giving back to his family and transforming his community. Henry has become an example to others to show them that they can have a prosperous future. Together, we make a difference!
